Not only its versatile fauna and flora are worth protecting, but it is also a treasure trove for scientists.
Among the many marsh plants around Lake Schwarzer See it is especially the water lilies that catch the eye. Mallards and tufted ducks populate the lake. There they nest and breed. The lake is surrounded by sub-alpine forests, woolly reedgrass, small cow weed, club moss, Nordic galium verum, rusty-leafed alpine roses and heathers.
Schloss Naudersberg castle is located on a small hill south of Nauders. The castle dates back to the 13th centry.
To 1919 the castle was the seat of the Naudersberg sovereign court and the Nauders district court. Today Naudersberg castle is privately owned. In a showroom field and farming devices, household appliances, carriages and sledges are on display. Old tools are demonstrated in bunks, among them wagon-maker’s and blacksmith’s tools. In the tower there are some old arrests dating back to the 17th century.
The dry climate and the good infrastructure make Nauders a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers.
More than 150km of signposted hiking trails are offered to the guest's delight. There is a perfect route for all abilities, routes range from easy hikes down in the valley to extremely difficult mountaineering tours and climbing routes in rock and ice. In quaint alpine huts one can recharge with traditional meals. If you need more action you can get your kicks while river rafting, surfing, paragliding, canyoning or biking.

The many runners along the Via Claudia Augusta inspired us to install some of the most beautiful running trails. Nauders with the Reschenpass region has become a land of runners and walkers.
