Kaunertaler Gletscher

The main town of Feichten is located at 1,287 m above sea level - this is where you start your tour along the Kaunertal Glacier Road. The glacier road is nicknamed the “panoramic road” for good reason and is a must for pass enthusiasts and bikers. The motto is: “high, higher and even higher”. In total, there are more hairpin bends than kilometers to be explored on the Kaunertal Glacier Road. Over a distance of 26 kilometers, there is not only a lot to see, but also a difference in altitude of almost 1,500 meters to climb. Of course, this requires stamina and strength, as the average gradient is an impressive ten percent! After a few kilometers of driving and the first four hairpin bends, a first stop is recommended - right at the top of the dam of the Gepatsch reservoir. The Seepanorama café invites you to enjoy a cozy cappuccino. Here it is worth taking a look at the lake, which shimmers in different colors depending on the season. This is followed by six kilometers along the shore of the lake by bike and then the fun really begins. You reach the next terrain level via the perfectly constructed hairpin bends - at an altitude of 2,100 m, you should let your bike catch its breath. It's worth taking a look at the Kaunergrat - to your left is the huge Gepatschferner, the second largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. The vegetation becomes noticeably sparser and the terrain more rugged. Another 10 hairpin bends await the bikes and then the destination is reached: the parking lot at an altitude of 2,750 m is also the end point of the Kaunertal Glacier Road. The Weißsee glacier restaurant invites you to stop for refreshments with all-day hot food and a large sun terrace.
