Star Bowl

In the Kaunertal valley, one of Europe’s few windows onto the Milky Way opens up at night, revealing thousands upon thousands of stars. In the upper reaches of the Kaunertal, the ‘Star Bowl’ is the new hub for stargazing experiences and a centre for nocturnal encounters. After all, the Gepatsch area in the upper Kaunertal is the darkest place in Austria.
The Star Bowl is a unique structure on the mountainside, measuring almost 7 metres in diameter and offering space for around 15–20 people. The stone and pine timber are sourced from the region and were installed on site in collaboration with local craftsmen.
The Star Bowl is open to the public around the clock. It can be reached via the newly renovated “old Gepatschweg” from the Gepatschspeicher, or via a revitalised path and a newly built bridge from the Gepatschhaus.
