last update: 03/24/2026; 3:00 pm
"The Reschenstraße is one of the most important connections to the south and is indispensable for the communities in the Upper Court. The Kanzelgalerie will ensure significantly greater safety in the long term – and the fact that we are already able to make things easier is a great success for everyone involved," emphasises Road Construction Officer Deputy Governor Josef Geisler. Gregor Wieland, head of the bridge and tunnel construction department at the Province of Tyrol, highlights the logistical challenges: "From a construction point of view, this project is extremely demanding. However, the interim results show that we are on track and at the same time able to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. The two-lane configuration during the winter break is a good example of how we are efficiently combining construction work and traffic flow."
- single-lane traffic with traffic light control.
In connection with the construction of the pulpit gallery, daily closures will be necessary for rock removal work following the freeze-thaw cycle in the spring and for road construction as well as the stabilization of a rock outcrop near the new gallery in the fall, as follows:
- April 13, 2026, to May 8, 2026: Daily closures Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- August 31, 2026, to October 30, 2026: Daily closures Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
ATTENTION: On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the road will not be open to traffic at noon due to the Tour of the Alps (professional cycling race)! On this day, the closure will be in effect continuously from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.!
During the daily closures, please note the following details:
- The closures apply from Pfunds/Kajetan Bridge (B 184 Engadiner Straße junction) to Nauders/B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße junction; however, access to Nauders via the B 180 Reschenstraße remains unrestricted.
- Traffic will be diverted—with the exception of vehicles with trailers longer than 6.5 meters and buses longer than 13 meters—via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße, the H 27 Engadiner Straße (Swiss territory), and the B 184 Engadiner Straße.
- Vehicles that cannot use the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße due to existing traffic restrictions must take a wide detour around the closure or wait for the designated time slots.
- Outside the specified closure times, traffic may proceed through the construction zone in a single lane (traffic light control).
- Swiss customs authorities have announced that there are no exceptions regarding the heavy vehicle tax for vehicles over 3.5 tons.

Passenger cars will be detoured between Pfunds and Nauders from the Kajetansbrücke bridge via Engadiner Straße (B184) and Martinsbrucker Straße (B185) and therefore partly via Swiss territory. The additional diversions is around 6.6 kilometres and takes approx. 15 minutes longer. HGVs, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 metres and buses over 13 metres are not allowed to use this route. They must take a wide detour.
Important information about Martinsbrucker Straße: The B185 is a winding mountain road (ten hairpin bends) with a steep longitudinal gradient in places. Winter equipment (especially snow chains) may be required even in poor winter driving conditions.
1. cycling ban on the B 180 Reschenstraße
Cycling is prohibited between the access road to the Fischeralm and the access road to the Altfinstermünz fortress.
Bypass for cyclists
- Take the signposted cycle path in the direction of the Altfinstermünz fortress.
- Follow the forest road "Bierweg" (plot number 3441, KG Nauders I).
- Alternatively, cycle traffic can be routed via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße (except when the B 180 is completely closed).
2. cycling ban on the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße
Cycling is also prohibited from the Inn bridge Martina to Norbertshöhe (uphill) when the B 180 Reschenstraße is closed.
Motorhomes are not subject to any restrictions and may use the diversion route. Caravan combinations are only permitted if the trailer is no longer than 6.5 meters. However, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must pay a heavy goods vehicle charge in Switzerland. Anyone driving a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes on the diversions via Switzerland must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay 5 euros per journey and vehicle.
Even during the construction work on the Reschenbundesstraße, all summer leisure activities in and around Nauders are available to you without restriction. Whether hiking, cycling or relaxing days in nature - the construction work has no impact on your summer activities. Thanks to the well-organized detour and precautions, you can enjoy your stay with us to the full.
The heavy vehicle charge is collected for vehicles over 3.5 tons. This is organized with the detour traffic in a simplified procedure. Vehicles registered over 3.5 tons and taking the detour via Swiss territory must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay €5 (per journey and vehicle).
In future, the Kanzelgalerie will protect the Reschenstraße from natural hazards such as falling rocks and enable safe traffic routing in a particularly endangered section.
