FAQ Construction work on Reschenstrasse

with local detour

summer season 2025

last update: 06/27/2025; 11:00 am

The Kanzelgalerie on the B 180 Reschenstraße between Pfunds and Nauders is one of the largest construction projects in Tyrol and serves to protect against falling rocks and other natural hazards. A 400-metre-long protective structure made of solid reinforced concrete ensures safe traffic routing on this important connection. During the construction work, however, there will be temporary traffic disruptions, which will be regulated by detour or temporary closures. In this FAQ you will find all the important information on traffic routing and the planned construction phases.

  • From 30.04.2025, 6.00 pm: With the exception of the daytime closures, a single lane of traffic will be set up in the construction site area. The traffic will be regulated by traffic lights. In the event of heavy traffic, longer waiting times on the B 180 Reschenstraße are to be expected due to the single-lane traffic control. However, the bypass via the B 184 Engadiner Straße, the Swiss national territory and the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße is possible throughout, with the exception of vehicles with trailers over 6.5 metres and buses over 13 metres. (Note: The route is 6.5 km longer, which means an average longer journey time of approx. 10 minutes).

If necessary, traffic splitting can be set up: This involves a diversion of traffic via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße, B 184 Engadiner Straße and the Swiss national territory.

Notes: Traffic splitting will only be set up if necessary, e.g. for large concrete works and especially in the event of traffic congestion. In principle, traffic splitting is only installed in the southbound direction (Italy). If necessary, however, splitting can also be used in northbound direction (Germany). Schedulable traffic splitting (e.g. concreting) only takes place from 08:00 to 18:00.

  • Fall 2026: Completion of construction work with single-lane traffic management.
  • September to November 2026: Further closures (daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for expansion and asphalting work.
  • December 2026: Completion of the Pulpit Gallery.

Passenger cars will be detoured between Pfunds and Nauders from the Kajetansbrücke bridge via Engadiner Straße (B184) and Martinsbrucker Straße (B185) and therefore partly via Swiss territory. The additional diversions is around 6.6 kilometres and takes approx. 15 minutes longer. HGVs, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 metres and buses over 13 metres are not allowed to use this route. They must take a wide detour.

Important information about Martinsbrucker Straße: The B185 is a winding mountain road (ten hairpin bends) with a steep longitudinal gradient in places. Winter equipment (especially snow chains) may be required even in poor winter driving conditions.

1. cycling ban on the B 180 Reschenstraße

Cycling is prohibited between the access road to the Fischeralm and the access road to the Altfinstermünz fortress.

Bypass for cyclists

  • Take the signposted cycle path in the direction of the Altfinstermünz fortress.
  • Follow the forest road "Bierweg" (plot number 3441, KG Nauders I).
  • Alternatively, cycle traffic can be routed via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße (except when the B 180 is completely closed).

2. cycling ban on the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße

Cycling is also prohibited from the Inn bridge Martina to Norbertshöhe (uphill) when the B 180 Reschenstraße is closed.

Motorhomes are not subject to any restrictions and may use the diversion route. Caravan combinations are only permitted if the trailer is no longer than 6.5 meters. However, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must pay a heavy goods vehicle charge in Switzerland. Anyone driving a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes on the diversions via Switzerland must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay 5 euros per journey and vehicle.

The construction work on the Reschenbundesstraße does not affect winter operations in and around Nauders in any way. All winter sports facilities, from the slopes to the cozy huts, are accessible as usual. Our infrastructure is well prepared to ensure you have an unforgettable winter vacation despite the construction work. Enjoy the snow and the variety of activities that Nauders has to offer.

Even during the construction work on the Reschenbundesstraße, all summer leisure activities in and around Nauders are available to you without restriction. Whether hiking, cycling or relaxing days in nature - the construction work has no impact on your summer activities. Thanks to the well-organized detour and precautions, you can enjoy your stay with us to the full.

The heavy vehicle charge is collected for vehicles over 3.5 tons. This is organized with the detour traffic in a simplified procedure. Vehicles registered over 3.5 tons and taking the detour via Swiss territory must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay €5 (per journey and vehicle).

In future, the Kanzelgalerie will protect the Reschenstraße from natural hazards such as falling rocks and enable safe traffic routing in a particularly endangered section.
